Choosing a system for the whole year

HVAC covers heating, ventilation and air conditioning. On this coast, the usual question is whether one reversible system can handle both hot summers and mild winters, or whether existing heating should stay.

Heating and cooling together

A reversible air-to-air heat pump cools in summer and heats in winter. Ask for both outputs on the quote, along with the rooms the system is sized for.

Ventilation and air quality

Air conditioning recirculates indoor air rather than bringing in fresh air. If stuffiness is the concern, ask how ventilation is handled, and how often filters must be cleaned or changed.

Servicing and repairs

Ask who will service the system, how often, and at what cost. If yours has failed, describe the symptoms and its age in your request so the installer can advise on repair or replacement.

What to check before you sign

  • Refrigerant handling. In France, a company that handles refrigerant needs an attestation de capacité. Ask for a copy.
  • Insurance. Ask for the installer's current insurance certificates, including garantie décennale where it applies to the work.
  • Outdoor unit position. The quote should say where it goes, how the pipework runs and who obtains any approval.
  • Warranty and servicing. Get the manufacturer's terms and the installer's own terms in writing, with the cost of annual servicing.

HVAC advice by town

How a quote request works

  1. Describe the property

Town, type of property, rooms to cool and anything already installed. Two minutes is enough.

  2. Hear from an installer

A qualified local installer contacts you to discuss the job and arrange a survey if one is needed.

  3. Compare and decide

Your quote sets out the price and terms, so read it closely before you sign.

Common questions

What does an HVAC contractor do?

An HVAC contractor designs, installs and services heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. On the French Riviera, most home projects centre on air conditioning and reversible heat pumps.

How often should a system be serviced?

Follow the manufacturer's schedule, which may also be a condition of the warranty. Larger systems can also require periodic leak checks by law, so ask the installer what applies to yours.
